Summertime! Camping trips, beach days, BBQs, and pool parties. This is undoubtedly my favorite time of year, when we can catch up with family and friends, slow down for a minute, and remember why we work so hard. I am a staunch advocate of the phrase, “We work to live, not live to work.” This means we fight hard for our contracts, and we work for our paychecks. But as this world gets a little busier and crazier, we must remember to focus on what is truly important: family, friends, and the pursuit of happiness.
Between my work trips and serving the membership, I must remind myself that my girls are growing up fast, and I want to catch as many moments and memories as possible. Striking that balance of dedication to the union and home life is difficult, and often my family pays the price. I offer this introspection because I see it in many of our members. You are dedicated to your craft, building magnificent projects in our communities, and still trying to catch your kids’ baseball games or school play performances.
I’m here to say that it’s normal to struggle sometimes, and that it’s OK to rebalance and re-focus on those priorities. I look forward to seeing all of you at our family events, and I hope you have a great summer!
Always in Brotherhood,
President Pete Seaberg
