Brother/Sisterhood

At the center of IBEW 332’s culture is the bond of union brother– and sisterhood. We come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, and at the end of the day, the union is the glue that binds us together. We believe that our diversity makes us strong and that everyone should be welcome on our job sites, in our apprenticeship, and in our union social activities.

IBEW 332’s officers and staff come from all walks of life and ensure that diverse voices have input in decision-making. In recent decades, our union has attracted more women and people of color. Everyone has to pass the test to get in, and everyone has to go through our rigorous apprenticeship. But by broadening the pool, we raise the standards of applicants, making our program extremely competitive.

It starts with our apprenticeship at the Electrical Training Alliance of Silicon Valley (ETASV). Once people turn out from our 5-year program, our journeymen bring up the next generation of electricians, carrying the belief that all workers deserve a chance if they show up ready to learn and work hard. The brother– and sisterhood runs deep, and older members want to provide younger members with the opportunities they have had, passing on knowledge from generation to generation.

After members punch out, Local 332 has a world of social activities that uplift each other as well as our community. From affinity groups and clubs to sporting events to our annual picnic, we welcome everyone into our larger IBEW family. We also serve the community. This includes volunteering at the local food bank, taking action in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence, and giving money to train service dogs for people with disabilities.

IBEW 332 believes that we are ambassadors for a more equitable world – whether by providing pathways to middle class jobs to those who have been shut out or by serving the most marginalized members of our larger Santa Clara County community. And in the face of a divided world, IBEW 332 starts and ends with the bond of the union brother– and sisterhood as the great equalizer among our members.
