A new challenge coin shaped like a dog tag features the U.S. flag on one side and Canada’s Maple Leaf on the other. The IBEW logo is on both. “Honoring our members who served their countries while also bringing more veterans into the IBEW has long been a priority for me, whether it is through VEEP or Helmets to Hardhats or providing resources for our local unions to add their own veteran committees,” International President Kenneth W. Gone but never forgotten: #IBEW Local 332 Business Manager Javier Casillas’s sudden passing left all of us in shock. We will always remember his loyalty to Local 332, the members, and his family. He leaves behind his lovely wife, his 19-year old daughter, and his 16-year old son. His legacy will live on at Local 332. As Javi said, “Always Union!” In Javier’s Words in His Final Year: “I am proud of our membership and our ‘can do’ union mindset. Our members are in demand on both the local and national fronts. We are solid representatives of what the IBEW is all about. Not only does 332 command the best wage packages in the country, but our innovation is leading the electrical industry into the future. “I want you all to recognize that there’s a lot of shit going down right now, and it’s OK to share your feelings and ask for help. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We are a union family and need to help each other through life. We build together and grow our families together. That’s the IBEW brother- and sisterhood. “We are steeped in traditions, passed down through generations, which pave the way for members to grow your families and retire with dignity. Together as a union family, we share our successes and failures. Longtime member Peter Huber has been appointed president of our union. Huber credits Local 332 for allowing him to provide for his family and have time off to watch his kids grow up. As president, Huber wants to foster a greater sense of family in the union by increasing social events. He is modest about his new role and feels this is where he can best contribute. “I like to be the guy to help—I don’t need accolades,” he said, “Most members want to spend time with their families outside of work. So having at least one family-friendly event per month allows members to both spend time with their immediate families while also growing our union family. That’s how we strengthen our union.” At the heart of Huber’s vision is inclusivity. “Your voice is heard, your voice matters, everyone has an equal opportunity to participate, and I want to make 332 as inclusive as possible.” Read more about our new president, his history with Local 332, and his vision for Local 332's future at the link in our bio. #unionstrong #332proud

Pete Seaberg has been a fixture in the Local 332 leadership for close to 15 years. For years, he partnered with Javier Casillas on running the local. So when Brother Casillas passed away suddenly, Seaberg assumed leadership with a smooth transition. The executive board formally appointed him business manager in July. “With so much uncertainty in the world right now, members can count on 332,” Seaberg emphasized. “Business is open, and you can have confidence that the team and I are taking care of you. We’re part firefighters and part cops. We’re at the hall ready to support the members and look into job site problems to ensure that the contractors are following the contract. "The Trump administration is escalating its attacks on major renewable energy projects and the thousands of union jobs that power them, just as the grid faces historic strains from ballooning demand. In one of the latest examples, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued a stop-work order on the Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island in late August — months before it was due to start supplying energy — citing unspecified national security concerns. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” International President Kenneth W. Cooper said after the Revolution Wind announcement. “This is power we desperately need. … Years of work down the drain, hundreds of millions of dollars and dozens of workers sitting idle on a dock, because one man isn’t a fan?” Cooper compared the stop-work order to the Keystone XL pipeline drama a decade ago. “I know that upset many of our members. From our new Business Manager Pete Seaberg: "True leadership is NOT simply a position or a title. Being a leader takes hard work, experience, and humility. It takes sacrifice and the ability to put the well-being of others before your own. You must be able to adapt and overcome challenges in the world around you to help others succeed. Leaders must be able to admit they don’t have every answer but be willing to seek information and solutions. Leaders must be open to new ideas and different ways to accomplish goals for the good of their team. As I write this article and continue to work through the loss of my close friend and our brother, Javi, I struggle to find the right words. It is extremely painful to mourn such a loss and simultaneously be excited for this opportunity to lead our local... One thing I’ve learned over the years is that success as a leader is not defined by personal accomplishments. It is defined by the growth of those around you. It is measured by how many brothers and sisters you can inspire and lift up to find your own version of success. That is the approach I will take as your business manager. I’m excited to continue serving the local and building upon all our accomplishments together. I thank you for your kind words and support over the past few weeks. When the #IBEW negotiated double-digit raises in its new contract with CBS, it was another victory for an uncommon bargaining strategy that puts working men and women at the table with their bosses. 50 rank-and-file members of the union sat across from the managers they work with every day to hash out details of a contract for 4,300 union technicians, camera operators, editors and broadcast specialists. The headline was the unprecedented pay raises. Most numbers covered by the contract will see 13% higher wages over the next three years, while traveling sports freelancers will also receive a 14.75% increase in travel-day pay. “There is a saying, ‘the magic of television.’ The magic is us,” said Dan Hamm, a technical director at CBS for 25 years and president of New York Local 1212. NY #IBEW Local 3's Erin Sullivan teaches a course on labor history that's mandatory for apprentices. They learn about how we got a 40-hour workweek and safety measures on the job. “Erin’s class really opened my eyes,” said first-year apprentice John Tomsen. “Everything that we take for granted had to be earned. People risked their lives for what we have today. They died for this movement.” Today, favorable policies are being rescinded, rule-making boards have been stacked against unions, and staff has been slashed at agencies responsible for workers’ rights and safety. Among other rollbacks, some 60 Occupational Health and Safety Administration rules — adequate lighting at construction sites, for instance — are on the verge of elimination.
