From 332 Business Manager Javier Casillas: "I want to congratulate our Inside, Resi, and S&C apprentices on your graduations. It has been a long journey through Covid, masks, foggy glasses, social distancing, coursework, exams, and reviews for all of you. Here at IBEW 332, we are happy to be part of your continued journey. Now that you all are journeymen and techs, it’s your turn to pay it forward, so please be patient with the current apprentices!"

You make us #unionstrong and #332proud.

Local 332 is everywhere you look! Check out what member Ken McKeever and his grandson Easton Barrow found in the outfield at the closing ceremonies for the Santa Teresa Little League!

Ken got his start as a material handler for Valley Electric in 1978. After two years, he started the apprenticeship and turned out in 1984. He was active in the field for 34 years retired in 2014.

“I have made terrific friends in 332, and we still get together several times a year,” said Ken. “From time to time, I have worked on volunteer projects, and it is comforting to know a current or former IBEW member is working with me. When I saw the 332 banner on the outfield fence, I called out to my Easton, my grandson, and yelled, ‘Hey, we need to take a picture here!’”

Congratulations to our January Apprentice of the Month, Raymundo Vallejo Serrano!

"Turning out felt incredible, and being named apprentice of the month was fulfilling way to end my apprenticeship. Right now, I’m working at Levi’s Stadium—running circuits for lighting poles and installing receptacles so T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T can plug in. It’s real, high-impact work.

"Before the union, I spent two years nonunion—and man, it doesn’t compare. I did the same thing every single day: roughing in walls. No schooling, no advancement. It was a joke. In the union, you start with theory, get hands-on in the labs, and out in the field, I’ve done more than I ever imagined. Every job is different. You build something, run conduit, light it up—and when the circuit fires and everything glows clean and perfect? There’s real pride in that.

"What really gets me, though, is the brother- and sisterhood. It might sound cliché, but something was missing before. With the IBEW, it’s family. These are the people I talk to every day, invite to my house, and when I get married, they’ll all be there. The union builds that. You’re part of something bigger. And all the foremen and generals—they treat you like a human first. When leaders take care of their people, the people show up. That’s the union way."

#UnionStrong #332Proud
"In San Jose and surrounding Santa Clara County, there’s such a shortage of electricians that 700 IBEW workers from around the country are working there, said Javier Casillas, business manager for Local 332 there. The union has 500 apprentices, bringing in 140 just this year to keep pace with the demand, Casillas said.

"Fueling much of the demand for electricians around the country lately has been the artificial-intelligence boom and the growth in the number and computing power of the data centers used train and run AI models. Dallas and Santa Clara County are home to two of the nation’s biggest clusters of data centers and each area is seeing substantial growth."

A new report by the Midwest Economic Policy Institute and the Project for Middle Class Renewal outlines how union-affiliated apprenticeship programs in Wisconsin are creating the vast majority of new apprentices in the skilled trades.

The report also notes the strong economic outcomes for workers participating in union programs: Union journeyworkers earn a median wage 41% more than their nonunion counterparts.
The typical union construction worker earns 24% more than a worker with a bachelor’s degree and 5% more than a worker with a master’s degree.

“We’re not just training workers—we’re building middle-class careers, creating ladders of opportunity, and ensuring Wisconsin employers have the skilled workforce they need to thrive," said Emily Pritzkow, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Building Trades Council.

#IBEW sisters doing it for themselves at the tradeswomen lobby day at the Capitol in Springfield, calling on their elected leaders to support policies that will bring more women into the trades.

“The day was an extraordinary experience for everyone,” said Chicago Local 134 Business Representative Bea Thompson, who spoke at the event. “We learned how to actually be a part of the lobbying process by speaking face-to-face with our lawmakers.”

Congratulations to Sara Goldie and Walker Speakman on their new baby Audrey! We're always excited to welcome a new member of the Local 332 family.

From Sara:
"Walker is a 595 Sound and Comm member (has been for nearly 14 years now!!) working in fire alarm, and I graduated from our Inside Wireman apprenticeship in 2022. I've been so excited to share our growing family with my IBEW family - my brothers and sisters at the jobsite were some of the first people I told when I was pregnant!

"Our local has always been so family-oriented. I love that everyone talks about their families, offers pregnancy and parenting advice and hand-me-down baby gear, brings their families to 332 events, and shares their news at work so we can all celebrate with them.

My IBEW brothers and sisters have been part of every milestone in my life since joining, sharing the joys and supporting through the struggles, and have welcomed Audrey since before she was even born. We're so excited that our daughter gets to grow up in our IBEW family!"

If you'd like to share your family's milestones — new babies, graduations, and weddings — with your 332 family over social, please send pictures and what you'd like to say over to Pete Seaberg at pseaberg@ibew332.org
It's always a great day when we get to hang out with our Local 332 family! Here are some more pics from our sporting clays event. Enjoy!

Even in the most unlikely places, like rural Louisiana, huge data centers are getting built—and need thousands of highly skilled electricians to build them.

“The explosive growth in the data center industry is a wave we are perfectly placed to ride. The stakes are high for our customers, and the work needs to be of the highest quality and on the shortest timelines. We were made for this,” said International President Kenneth W. Cooper. “We have to keep our own history in mind, though. We have to be smart about how we meet this moment. The interests of the IBEW, our contractors and customers must align if we are all going to benefit over the long term. And the long-term growth of the IBEW has to be where we focus.”

The AI revolution may eliminate all kinds of jobs, but it’s also creating new work—and lots of it, for skilled tradespeople. Google recently pledged $10 million for vocational training and apprenticeship programs. The money will also boost the skills of the existing workforce through like the Electrical Training Alliance, the #IBEW union and other organizations, to increase the supply of electrical workers by 70% by the end of the decade.

The #IBEW leads the way in safety.

Retiring 4th District International Vice President Gina Cooper recently reminded some of the nation’s top utility regulators and executives that the IBEW must be a leader in workplace safety and developing rapid response plans to weather emergencies.

It’s a responsibility that comes with being the world’s largest electrical union, she said.

“When the power goes out, when infrastructure is damaged, and when communities are at their most vulnerable, it is IBEW members, alongside first responders, who step in to restore essential services,” Cooper said.

"I’ve been with Redwood Electric Group for 16 years, and I’m a service foreman. Each day is something different: We’re always pivoting and using new tech. My favorite things are installing; working with my hands, and figuring out lighting systems, big wire pulls, and one line. I love it all. I’ve also been teaching at the ETASV for two years. I love it, and it allows me to give back to Local 332 for this amazing career."

"I like everything in this trade. I enjoy the entire process of a build out–from when it is just dirt on the ground to the finished product. We work on apartment buildings and houses, and when you see the people who have moved in, you feel like you really achieved something and helped folks make their living space a home. It’s nice to say, “We’re your electricians.”
